This program provides a clear, structured path to becoming a registered dentist in the UK through the Overseas Registration Exam (ORE).
About Overseas Registration Exam (ORE)
The Overseas Registration Exam (ORE) is conducted by the General Dental Council (UK) for internationally qualified dentists. It consists of two parts:
Computer-based exam designed to test candidates' application of knowledge to clinical practice.
Practical exam designed for candidates to demonstrate practical clinical skills.
Clearing both parts allows you to legally practice dentistry in the UK.

Step By Step Guide of Becoming a Dentist in UK
To book the Overseas Registration Exam, you must first send an application to the General Dental Council (GDC). Once approved, you'll be added to the official ORE Part 1 candidate list for exam booking.
ORE Part 1 tests your clinical knowledge and its application. It includes two computer-based papers:
- Paper A: Clinical dental science & human disease
- Paper B: Clinical dentistry, law, ethics, and safety
ORE Part 1 is held in April, August, and December. Secure a slot for the exam and make your travel arrangements to the UK.
Attend the exam and await your results.
Once you pass, you’ll be added to the official ORE Part 2 candidate list.
Part 2 assesses your practical clinical skills through four components:
- Dental Manikin (DM)
- OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination)
- DTP (Diagnostic & Treatment Planning Exercise)
- Medical Emergencies (ME)
ORE Part 2 is conducted in January, April, September, and November. Secure your slot and prepare for travel to the UK again.

Upon clearing Part 2, you become eligible to register with the GDC as a practicing dentist in the UK.

GDC Application
To book a seat for the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE), the General Dental Council (GDC) requires you to first complete a formal application process. Once approved, you will be added to the official ORE candidate list.

GDC Application Requirements
To apply for the ORE, the following documents and criteria are mandatory as per GDC guidelines. Our UK training partner, Smile Dental Academy, will guide you step-by-step through the process — ensuring every requirement is met with accuracy and confidence.
- You must hold a primary dental qualification from a dental school outside the UK.
- The degree must be comparable to a UK dental qualification.
- Provide a Statement of Comparability from UK ENIC (formerly NARIC).
- At least 1,600 hours of clinical experience treating patients.
- Observational or simulated experience does not count.
- Must be supported by signed documents and a reference from a supervising clinician.
- IELTS (Academic): Overall score 7.0, no less than 6.5 in any component.
- Proof of dental study in English may be accepted in some cases.
- From a dentist or professional not related to you.
- Must confirm your professional conduct and vouch for your character.
- Issued by the dental council/licensing authority where you are/were registered.
- Dated within the last 3 months.
- Certified copy of your passport (photo & signature pages).
- One recent passport-size photo signed by your referee.
- £96 application processing fee payable to the GDC before submission.
